JPEG files with EXIF data recommended
EXIF Viewer opens a photo and reads out the metadata the camera or phone embedded in it: camera make and model, shooting settings such as exposure time, aperture, ISO and focal length, the date it was taken, and GPS coordinates if the photo carries them. It's useful for checking how a shot was taken, confirming when a photo was captured, or finding out whether an image you're about to share still contains a location.
Drop in a JPEG and the results are grouped into File, Camera, Settings, Date / Time and GPS sections beside a preview and the image's pixel dimensions. When GPS data is present, a link opens the spot on Google Maps. EXIF is only read from JPEG files; for any other image type the tool still shows the file name, size, type and dimensions, and tells you that no EXIF data could be read.
The file is read inside your browser tab and nothing is uploaded. The only thing that ever leaves the page is the Google Maps link, and only if you click it.
- Drop in a photo, preferably a JPEG.
- Wait a moment while the metadata is read.
- Browse the File, Camera, Settings, Date / Time and GPS sections.
- If a location is present, open it on Google Maps, or load another photo to compare.
