About Favicon Generator

This tool makes a complete favicon set from an image, a letter or an emoji. Upload a logo (PNG, JPG, WebP, SVG or GIF up to 15 MB), or switch to the letter mode and type up to four characters, then pick a background and text color. Press Generate and you get previews of six PNG sizes: 16, 32, 48, 180, 192 and 512 pixels.

The download is one ZIP containing those PNGs (the 180 px one is named apple-touch-icon.png), a favicon.ico, a site.webmanifest and a ready-to-paste HTML snippet with the link tags. The .ico file holds the 16 and 32 px sizes. You can also copy the snippet from the page. Upload files at your site's root, paste the snippet into your page head, and browsers, phones and tab bars will pick the icon up.

Why this runs on your device

The privacy stake is small, since a favicon is public the moment you publish it. Still, a logo you have not launched yet is rendered to icon sizes and zipped on your device rather than sent to a converter, which also means the result appears immediately.

How to use Favicon Generator
  1. Upload a logo, or switch to the letter mode and type a letter or emoji.
  2. Choose colors if you are using a letter, then press Generate.
  3. Check the previews of each size.
  4. Download the ZIP, upload the files to your site's root, and paste the snippet into your page head.
Limitations and trade-offs
  • The favicon.ico contains only the 16 and 32 px sizes. That covers browser tabs and bookmarks, but Windows shortcuts or older uses that expect 48 or 256 px inside the .ico will not find them there.
  • Images are scaled to fill a square and the overflow is cropped from the center, so a wide or tall logo loses its edges. Prepare a square image, or crop it first.
  • The generated site.webmanifest has empty name and short_name fields and white theme and background colors. Fill them in before you publish.
  • The HTML snippet links the .ico, the 16 and 32 px PNGs, the apple-touch-icon and the manifest. The 48 px PNG is in the ZIP but not in the snippet, and the 192 and 512 px icons are referenced through the manifest.
  • Letter and emoji icons are drawn with your device's own fonts, so an emoji may look different from one generated on another system. The letter mode does not support custom fonts.
